Who Am I? 2-7-2026

Smiling woman with short gray hair, glasses, denim jacket, and blue checkered shirt standing outdoors next to a weathered red barn with sunflower plants in the background.

I am Brenda (Buegeler) Anderson. I was born in Alice, Texas, a town full of good ‘ol’ folk; farmers, ranchers, city folk and lots of oil production business workers.

After graduation, in (19??), I went off to Texas A&M University and majored in Horticulture. I met my husband on a blind date there and we’re still together after (??) years.  Do you think I trying to hide my age here? LOL

We lived up and down the Texas Gulf Coast in Wharton, Nueces, Harris and Panola County while raising our two beautiful daughters. Then we headed north to Omaha, Nebraska where it snows y’all. I had only seen that white stuff twice before. We’re now in Benton County, Arkansas living on a lake and enjoying life as happily retired, fat and sassy people.

When did I start to paint?

As a child, I always loved to create. And art has always been a positive source of creativity for me.

I recall in elementary school that my teacher, Mrs. Crawford, submitted our paintings to a local exhibition, where I won a blue ribbon. Already at that time, I loved experimenting with different techniques working with crayons.

After that, I recall doing a sculpture of a koala bear in Plaster of Paris in eighth grade art class.

From there, creativity came in other forms….many, many forms. lol

There are so many creative avenues, so many hobbies, and so many supplies, that I’ve had to talk to myself about this issue and learn to say no to many other forms of art.

For me, as I’ve learned in my advanced years, (LOL) any source of creativity is my personal therapy.

My hope for you is that you have or find a creative outlet.

We’ll talk more on that soon.

Brenda

A Return to Familiar Ground

Watercolor painting of a weathered gray barn surrounded by tall trees with golden and orange autumn foliage, a narrow path leading through green grass toward the barn.

Barns & Blooms is built around work that comes from long familiarity rather than spectacle. Brenda Anderson’s paintings reflect landscapes and structures shaped by use, time, and repetition—places that exist quietly rather than dramatically.

Much of her work begins with memory or observation: a fence line, a small house, a stretch of open field. These elements appear again and again, not as symbols, but as forms worth revisiting. Watercolor and acrylic allow color to lead without overstatement, keeping the work grounded and direct.

Rather than working toward a fixed style, Anderson allows each piece to develop on its own terms. Scale, palette, and composition shift naturally from painting to painting, resulting in a body of work that feels cohesive without being rigid.

Barns & Blooms serves as a home for these originals—one-of-a-kind works created individually and released as they are completed. The site will continue to grow as new paintings are added, each rooted in the same steady attention to place, color, and form.
